Transparent Shell: A Harmonious Blend of Art and Architecture

PONE ARCHITECTURE's Award-Winning Exhibition Space Redefines Spatial Experience

Unveiling the Transparent Shell, a groundbreaking exhibition space by PONE ARCHITECTURE, that reimagines the interaction between humans, architecture, and environment. This design, inspired by natural sequences, won the prestigious Platinum A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016.

The Transparent Shell is a unique architectural marvel, drawing inspiration from the intricate structure of a shell. The design intricately blends a conch-shaped helix with a three-dimensional grid, creating a harmonious balance between density and depth. This dynamic tension between harmony and conflict, erosion and coexistence, reflects the essence of life evolution.

What sets the Transparent Shell apart is its ability to stimulate the senses. Visitors can freely explore and interact with the space, triggering their vision, audition, and perception. This exploration fosters infinite thinking within the architectural space, providing profound insight in a simple, natural, and primitive way. The design embodies the belief that modern architecture should be more than functional; it should be a carrier of humanity and free will.

The construction of the Transparent Shell is a testament to innovative design and engineering. The main body consists of metal frames and a large number of irregular curved steels. Each of the 30 arched frames varies in its undulating rhythm, creating a polydirectional structure. The curves in the helix were meticulously crafted for accurate radian in each segment, resulting in precise nodes. These nodes were then positioned in space to create another curve by stretching steel pipes, which were then welded into groups for interconnection.

The Transparent Shell is not just a static structure; it is an interactive experience. The design process involved laying a base of transparent films, stroking silk, and weaving the films into groups. This process, akin to silkworms spinning cocoons, resulted in a complete shell gradually coming into being. The final product is a space filled with flowing dynamic, offering various function spaces such as entrance, wall, ceiling, window, desktop, or seat area.

The Transparent Shell project, which started in October 2015 in Guangzhou and finished in December 2015, was a journey of exploration and discovery. It involved extensive research into the relationships between humans and their environment, architecture, and space. The design challenges traditional architectural norms, proposing a new way of creating and recreating spaces that foster deep interaction and thought provocation.

In conclusion, the Transparent Shell by PONE ARCHITECTURE is a revolutionary design that pushes the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology. It is a testament to the power of innovative design in creating spaces that not only serve a function but also stimulate thought and interaction. The Transparent Shell truly embodies the spirit of the Platinum A' Design Award, showcasing world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing.
